The Università Carlo Cattaneo (LIUC) is an independent, state-recognized institution situated in the small town of Castellanza, within easy reach of Milan and the Malpensa International Airport. The university is housed in a nineteenth-century cotton mill which has been beautifully restored by the world-famous Italian architect Aldo Rossi and is surrounded by over 90,000 square meters of parklands. It is less than a mile from the train station that links Castellanza to Milan in 35 minutes.
LIUC is primarily a location for students majoring in Business Administration and International Business. Since the late 1800s, Castellanza has been one of the main industrial centers in the province of Varese. With the beautiful backdrop of the Alps and the famous Italian lakes of Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como, the province of Varese is also home to 23,000 manufacturing and craft industries that export over 30% of their products worldwide and generate employment to approximately 175,000 people. The university is an important example of the tradition for initiative and entrepreneurship in this part of Italy. It was founded on the initiative of the Industrial Association of the Province of Varese and was immediately recognized for its close relationships with the business world.
You'll be able to enroll in courses taught in English in a range of business disciplines. A standard semester schedule is made of 30 ECTS. (Courses at LIUC are valued in the European Credit Transfer System. HPU will award one credit for every 2 LIUC credits.) Generally speaking, a course must be worth a minimum of 5 ECTS in order to satisfy an HPU requirement, although some students have worked closely with department chairs to pair two courses worth less than 5 ECTS in order to satisfy one HPU requirement.
Review the course catalog to see available courses taught in English.
It's best practice to find equivalencies for a total of around 60 ECTS from which you later will be able to plan a semester enrollment--this will provide back-up course options in the event you won't be able to enroll only in your preferred courses.
Credits Information
For High Point University to recognize the credits you complete abroad, you must earn at least a grade equivalent to a C in the U.S. HPU will not accept credit for courses with grades of C– or below. Grades for all courses earned abroad are recorded on the international transcript. Credits are received by HPU as transfer credits, which means the credit is received but the grade is not. Your HPU grade point average will not be impacted positively or negatively by your study abroad courses.
