Deadlines
| Term | Nomination Deadline | Application Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 (Fall) | 01 March | 01 April |
| Semester 2 (Spring) | 01 October | 01 November |
Most of the student activities are included in the tuition and fees, including laundry facilities, fitness centers, indoor and outdoor pools, concierge services (e.g., wake-up calls and reservations), and special events (e.g., guest speakers, concerts, performances, art exhibits, on-campus movie theatre, and on-campus arcade).

Living Expenses
The accommodation fee listed above is for on campus accommodation in a standard-tier dorm. Additional fees will be charged for upgraded accommodations. On-campus residence halls are furnished, but linens are not provided. During the orientation week, the Office of Global Education will coordinate opportunities for students to purchase linens and other personal items. Note: all exchange students are required to live on campus.
The meal plan fee includes access to High Point University’s 18 restaurants and two convenience stores located across campus. HPU offers various food options that accommodate various dietary needs and preferences. Students are provided with a number of “board swipes” each week which can be used to purchase a meal at a campus restaurant. The number of board swipes varies by plan. Each week’s allowance of board swipes resets at the beginning of the new week. Additionally, students have a preset balance of funds, knowns as “Dining Dollars,” which can be used to purchase additional food, snacks, coffee, drinks, or other dining essentials. The amount of Dining Dollars varies by plan. This amount is provided for the duration of the semester. Students can add additional Dining Dollars to their account at any time.
All students living in on-campus accommodations are required to purchase a meal plan. All meal plan options cost the same fee, but vary by board swipes and Dining Dollar balances. Students are enrolled in the standard plan, but can make a change during the first week of classes.
Health Insurance
HPU’s Student health Insurance Plan is offered per term, with policies that run from 01 January through 31 July and from 01 August through 31 December.
Students with J-1 status will require an insurance policy to meet U.S. Department of State regulations. See Health Insurance for Exchange Visitors for more information.
Local Transportation
HPU Transportation offers complimentary daily campus shuttle service to all campus locations and weekly shuttle service to local shopping venues. HPU also provides regular, complimentary round-trip shuttle service during official university holidays from the HPU campus to the Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO), the Charlotte-Douglass International Airport (CLT), the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), and the High Point Amtrak and Greyhound Stations.
Personal & Other Expenses
Personal expenses vary per student. Book purchases could range from $200 USD to $600 USD or higher per semester; however, book rentals are available at a lower cost. Some courses (e.g., fine arts and sciences) also require lab fees and/or materials. Some activities, amenities, clubs and organizations, events, and excursions may require participation fees or service expenses.
Student Employment
Students with J-1 status are permitted to work on campus in specific positions up to 20 hours per week; however, they are not permitted to work off campus. Campus jobs are limited and can be hard to acquire, especially during the spring term. Students should not rely on getting a job at HPU when budgeting for their exchange.
