As you get settled in for a new academic year, you may notice that this summer saw some minor changes to locations of collections throughout the library. From collections moving to new collections emerging to a new library space on campus–below is a synopsis of what’s new for Fall 2025 at HPU Libraries.
18 New Study Carrels Added

Perhaps the most noticeable change occurred on the back of the 2nd (main) floor, with the addition of 18 beautiful new study carrels. Our student surveys consistently indicate a need for private, individual study areas on campus, and these carrels are a welcome change from the large tables and seating areas previously in the space. All study carrels have outlets for charging devices, and are first come, first serve.
Textbook Collection Re-Classed and Moved

In keeping with our goal to re-class the major current collections from Dewey Decimal to Library of Congress, we converted the Textbook Collection and moved it to the three bookcases along the back wall of the 2nd (main) floor, directly behind the new study carrels. Please note that this collection is Building Use Only and the textbooks in this collection cannot be checked out or removed from the library. You may still want to check the Core Collection for your textbooks–any duplicate copies or previous editions may be available there for checkout.
Though helpful for many, please note that the Textbook Collection is not comprehensive, and is built primarily through faculty and student donations. To order textbooks for your courses, please use this website and pick them up at HPU Outfitters.
HPU Faculty Publications & Board Game Collection Moved

The small collection of books published by HPU faculty were moved to the shelves near the circulation area where the textbooks were previously housed. These items do circulate–feel free to check them out and brush up on the research of your favorite professor! The Board Games that were previously by the Folio Collection were moved the the shelves near the main floor color printer, next to the faculty publications. There are also some board games on the lower level near the bottom of the main staircase.
End of Core Collection Shifted Forward

The re-class of current academic books from the General Collection (Dewey) to the Core Collection (Library of Congress) continues, with over 30,000 books now slated to move onto the shelves of the new Charman Library. This summer we focused re-class efforts on literature (Dewey 800s, LC: P), Science, Health and Technology (Dewey 500s and 600s, LC: Q, R, S, and T). The only shifting of the Core Collection occurred at the end of the collection, with P-Z moving onto one of the ranges previously housing 800s.
New Collections Added: Zine Collection & Pharmacy School Collection

This summer also saw the creation of two new library collections. In support of Lauren Ksa and Justin Cook’s course on Zines, we started a small Zine Collection, which currently contains 9 items. We hope to grow this collection with Zines created by HPU students in the course.
Another new collection consists of Pharmacy-specific books moved to the shelves of the Health Sciences Library in the Congdon School of Pharmacy. In addition to the book collection, Health Sciences librarian Jordan Stackhouse created a physical representation of some of the pharmacy e-books in the collection, complete with QR codes for easy access. This collection is Building Use Only (non-circulating) for in-house use by pharmacy students and faculty.
Kahn Law School Library Completed

If you haven’t already visited the new library space on the 3rd floor of the new Kenneth F. Kahn Law School building, you are missing out! This gorgeous library space is outfitted with rich wood-paneled, marble-topped bookcases, 2 fireplaces, and loads of study and conference rooms. Although this space is for regular use only by law students and faculty, we hope the luxurious finishes are a preview of what’s to come in the new Charman Library building. Our next post will cover the groundbreaking ceremony for this incredible new facility.
