High Point University's Mobile Planetarium brings the wonder of astronomy directly to schools, museums, and community spaces throughout High Point and the Piedmont Triad. A collaboration among the Natural Sciences Fellows, Department of Physics, and Culp Planetarium, this 20-ft-wide inflatable dome with a central projector provides an immersive experience, allowing the community to explore the night sky, learn about planets and constellations, and better understand astronomical phenomena. Large enough for groups of up to 28, the planetarium can accommodate guests who require an alternative to floor seating.
With our Digitalis Nightshade software, we can display the night sky in its full potential, showing the faintest stars as if you were stargazing in the best conditions possible. Each visit to the Mobile Planetarium is a live and interactive planetarium show, tailored specifically to the grade level or age group, that ties into relevant NGSS topics. These presentations are designed to complement new or familiar astronomy concepts, while providing insights to the real sky outside to encourage night sky observing. Serving as a vehicle to explore the universe, the Mobile Planetarium is used to inspire the next generation of scientists.
