Students recently had the opportunity to practice putting out a real fire following a hands-on fire extinguisher training. In the past, HPU has partnered with the High Point Fire Department to provide hands-on training in a virtual setting with the Bullex Fire Extinguisher.
The training teaches students how to properly use an extinguisher and understand when a fire grows beyond an extinguisher’s capability. Students learn how much time they actually have with a fire extinguisher (roughly, about 25 seconds). If the flame isn’t out when the extinguisher is fully discharged, the student needs to plan their escape.
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) offers fire extinguisher and other safety training to all individuals, groups and departments on campus. Anyone interested in learning more should email email@example.com.
