As we continue our #MyMajorAtHPU countdown, we’ll focus on 5 more popular majors at High Point University. The #16-20 majors include accounting, political science, game & interactive media design, special education and history.

 

 

 

 


#16: Accounting

The Earl N. Phillips School of Businessschool of business (PSB) at High Point University offers the B.S.B.A. degree in Accounting. Students pursuing this degree take courses in financial accounting, taxation, business law, macroeconomics, marketing and financial management that provide students with the technical and analytical foundation of the discipline of accountancy.

Students establish qualifications for careers in public accounting firms, financial institutions, commercial and industrial businesses, government agencies, not-for-profit institutions and other organizations.

#17: Political Science

political scienceThe political science major is housed in the David R. Hayworth College of Arts and Sciences. The political science program at High Point University centers around the development of strong technical skills and an advanced understanding of political behavior and its consequences for many of the most important issues that shape our lives and the world.

Examples of career fields relating to political science include: becoming urban planners, communications directors, military officers, intelligence professionals, professors and leaders in many other fields.

 #18: Game & Interactive Media Design

One of the eight concentrations offered in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication is Game & Interactive Media Design. Most students who choose this path are technologically adept and artistically inclined, but above all else they enjoy playing, making, and modifying games.

In the classroom, students are introduced to state-of-the-art video game technology such as motion capture equipment to transfer real human movement to a digital character or 3D level design software that allows students to create new worlds. A few of the key courses offered in the game & interactive media design concentration include game development, digital game prototyping, games and society, 3D modeling for video games, and game industries and organizations.

After graduation, students find employment in the commercial game industry and the rapidly expanding market for serious games development, and are equipped to be game journalists, testers, designers, marketers, and writers.

#19: Special Education

17977502520_1172de98f1_zA major in special education will qualify a student for licensure in Special Education: General Curriculum (K-12).  The teacher education programs at High Point University meet the requirements of both the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Carolina State Board of Education.

In the last five years, the School of Education has graduated more than 300 students in teacher education and 150 graduate students who have gone on to become classroom teachers and school principals, thereby impacting the lives of thousands of school-aged children.

#20: History

department of history

The history program at High Point University prepares students for a changing world by helping them understand their place in the broader human experience. Majors and minors take courses in the history of North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa and faculty in the department work hard to offer innovative ideas and techniques to enhance classroom teaching.
