Class of 2016 Outcomes: Lydia Prior Travels for Krispy Kreme Corporation

It may be early in the semester, but Commencement will be here before we know it. Many High Point University seniors are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2016:

Name: Lydia Prior

Hometown: Culpepper, Virginia

Major: Prior will graduate with a B.S.B.A. in Business Administration, with a minor in Marketing, on May 7.

Post-graduation plans: Prior accepted a position as a Field Marketing Representative at Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation in Tampa, Florida. In her position, Prior will work directly with franchisees and company stores in Florida and Georgia to develop marketing plans for their communities. She will also assist in the development of new store openings, work to increase overall sales, drive fundraising programs, and ensure all stores within the regions properly uphold Krispy Kreme standards.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU constantly reminded me that life, as well as your career, should be extraordinary and settling for less in not an option. Being surrounded by extraordinary classmates, professors, and a remarkable campus has enabled me to understand the importance of hard work and determination. The university has opened doors that I never could have imagined. I have been afforded the opportunity to become involved in a variety of organizations and leadership positions from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Kappa Delta sorority, Peer Tutoring, Student Government Association, Resident Assistant and so much more during my time at High Point University. I feel that High Point University has opened my heart and my mind and has helped me achieve so much in the four short years I have been a part of this incredible community.

From Bridget Holcombe helping me search for internships, to the guest speakers that come to share their knowledge and advice with the student body, to the career fairs held for students each semester, the Career & Professional Development office has helped me to continually network and maintain my cover letter and resume so that I may learn to succeed professionally. The office staff has gone above and beyond to make sure I am prepared in every way possible so that I secured a job after graduation.

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Each professor and staff member I have worked with has helped to shape and to influence who I am today. Professor Joseph Blosser, of the Service Learning Department, was one of the first professors who helped me realize my passion for the business world. From assigning class projects that helped shape my professional skills, to coordinating meetings with community leaders whom taught me about their personal paths to professional success, to taking the time to help me search for internships, Dr. Blosser helped to form my desire to pursue a career in the business world. In addition, Professor Randy Moser has also been a tremendous mentor during my time at HPU. Without his willingness to continually meet with me about my internship and career search, or teaching me the importance of LinkedIn and networking, I wouldn’t have the confidence I have today to be able to take on the professional world. Last but not least, Pastor Preston Davis has been a mentor who remains a profound influencer in my every day life. He opened the path to me in which I found a love for serving others. After traveling to Haiti for a service trip together, Pastor Davis sparked a passion in me to help others through volunteer work, and because of him, I will continue to serve my community in the next chapter of my life.

Most impactful moment at HPU: “The most impactful moment during my time at HPU was meeting alumni Lindsay Christel. Prior to meeting her, I was minimally involved and didn’t think much about extracurricular activities. Due to her determination to succeed, and to make those around her succeed, Lindsay inspired me to join the Student Government Association, Kappa Delta sorority, and many other life changing organizations. Her leadership and friendship still impact me daily and she continues to push me to strive to be the best version of myself.”

Advice for underclassmen: “LinkedIn, LinkedIn, LinkedIn, and internships! It may seem redundant to have your professors continually harping on the importance of LinkedIn, but it will connect you with professionals and companies that you never even considered. Creating a network of mentors during your undergraduate years is crucial during this age of technology. Such networking is beneficial to your future. In addition to networking, I am adamant that internship experience is incredibly pertinent to postgraduate success. Seeking out summer internships was critical for me. My last summer internship rolled into the fall and spring of my senior year and ultimately led to my postgraduate job opportunity. An internship will teach you discipline, networking and how to balance a career with other life stressors.”
