HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:
Name: Nicole Mearing
Hometown: Fayetteville, North Carolina
Major: Sociology and anthropology with minors in psychology and business administration
Post-graduation plans: Mearing joins Bald Head Island Club in Bald Head Island, North Carolina, as a member assistant. In her role, she maintains the member database and provides professional customer service for members and guests.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU helped me gain a business mindset through carrying professionalism, public speaking and time management skills into my daily life. Staff members from the Office of Career and Professional Development provided advice and pointers for success. They helped me polish my resume and cover letter.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“Some of my most impactful moments at HPU were when I met my lifelong friends. They impacted my life for the better from the beginning and will continue to do so. I’m grateful to HPU for giving us a chance to meet one another.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“HPU taught me the importance of connections and the importance of forming meaningful connections with as many people as possible. For example, the wonderful lady I met a year prior to landing this job was the one who helped me in the hiring process which made the process much smoother.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU helped me build self-confidence in professional settings. Being submerged into the business mindset here on campus and being surrounded by well-rounded individuals, allowed me to see myself in the professional world and know that I will do just fine.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“The God, family, country motto was the selling point when I arrived as a freshman in 2019. Those values have resonated with me personally all my life, and I hold them near and dear to my heart. HPU has done a great job upholding this motto and I am proud to have been a part of it and plan to carry it on after graduation.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Just go for it, the worst you are going to hear is no or find out it is not for you personally. You have your whole life to figure things out, it does not have to be right now. Just keep trying new things!”
