Thank you for your interest in hosting a presentation through the Office of Career & Professional Development. We welcome collaboration with campus partners to encourage the success of HPU students!
Scheduling Guidelines:
- Please read the form below in entirety and supply the requested information. This will help us prepare a valued presentation experience for your class or group.
- There must be at least two weeks’ notice from the time of the request to the time of the presentation. Availability may vary depending on the season in the office.
- A list of presentation descriptions is provided below. If you would like a more customized presentation, please select other and then provide a description in the Additional Information section.
- You may request a specific advisor for a presentation. Should there be any scheduling conflicts we will reach out via e-mail.
Students will learn about the various services and programs offered through CPD and how to take full advantage of our assistance. They will learn the basics of how to use Handshake to claim their account, set-up their profile, search for opportunities, and schedule appointments.
Students will learn tips for developing strong documents that catch the attention of hiring managers and set them apart from other candidates. We will stress the importance of tailoring documents for each unique opportunity, leveraging connections, and strategically using keywords and relevant accomplishments.
Students will learn how to research employers and available opportunities, develop a strategic search plan, leverage LinkedIn, track the process, and follow-up appropriately.
Students will learn how to research graduate schools and develop a strategic search plan. We will also provide guidance on the application process including CV development, entrance exam preparation, personal statement, recommendation letters.
Students will learn how to prepare for interviews, how to formulate interview answers, and how to follow up appropriately. We will share samples of common interview questions and behavioral interview questions. Students will be introduced to Big Interview.
Self-assessments help students increase self-understanding and aim for an academic major and career path that is a natural fit. Please note: PathwayU is available through a weblink at no charge for students to access, however, the CliftonStrengths assessment must be purchased individually by each student (the access code includes a book and costs $20). Please coordinate with a CPD team member about which assessment is best suited for your class. Having a strong understanding of self allows students to be more strategic in researching opportunities and increases confidence during the interview process, specifically when answering the inevitable “tell me about yourself” question.
