Searching for Internships and Jobs

The most effective way to identify potential opportunities is through networking. Use our Tracking Document to keep track of your contacts, as well as internships and jobs you find.

Career & Professional Development (CPD) makes no representations or guarantees about the opportunities posted on its website. While CPD makes every effort to educate and empower students in obtaining their desired career goals, this responsibility ultimately lies with the student. High Point University CPD posts job listings on Handshake for the convenience of students. It is the responsibility of students to perform due diligence in researching employers when applying for or accepting private, off-campus employment and to thoroughly research the facts and reputation of each organization to which they are applying. Students should be prudent and use common sense and caution when applying for or accepting any position.

New Handshake (3)

Handshake is the number one way college students get hired. This career management platform allows students and alumni to access full-time, part-time, internship and volunteer opportunities posted directly by the employer or through Career & Professional Development.

For Students Completing Internships for Credit

Faculty supervisors began overseeing this process starting in the Spring of 2024. Interns are evaluated by both their Site and Faculty Supervisors on progress towards their learning objectives. Evaluations generally fall into the following categories: performance as a member of the staff, performance on assigned tasks, professionalism and ethical behavior, ability to work with others, and potential for work in this field.

Typically, interns are expected to keep a Weekly Time Log, complete a Midterm Evaluation, and complete a Final Evaluation. Keep in mind that your specific department may require more during the course of your internship. It is important that you check with your Faculty Supervisor or your Department Chair to make sure that you are aware of all additional requirements before beginning your internship. For Faculty

We have developed resources similar to the forms that were used previously for faculty supervisors to use if they so choose.

Form links for faculty to duplicate, not to share with students

These forms are currently housed in Microsoft Forms. The links below are duplicate links. When you click on the link, there is an option provided at the top of the screen to Duplicate it. This creates a copy of the form in your Microsoft Forms account.

Once a copy has been created, you can customize the form for your students and then select Collect Responses in the top right to copy the link you will provide to your students.

If students will be uploading timesheet files in the Internship Timesheet form, please visit Access files submitted via File Upload question option in Microsoft Forms for instructions on locating these files in your OneDrive.
