American University of Rome
Rome, Italy
With a total enrollment of about 500 students, the university attracts students from 40 countries worldwide, bringing a unique international perspective to the campus.

All classes are taught in English, allowing students with limited or no proficiency in the Italian language to be successful in their studies. Students can enroll in courses in business, film and digital media communication, English literature, mathematics, social sciences, fine arts, and language.

The AUR program is designed to provide students with a unique living and learning experience in “The Eternal City.” Those who prefer smaller class sizes will find AUR a comfortable setting, as the student-faculty ratio is about 16:1.

The school is beautifully situated on top of Rome's highest hill and offers spectacular views from it's single, self-contained campus. The campus includes two main buildings, a library, and gorgeous gardens and terraces for studying or enjoying conversations with classmates from around the globe. The surrounding neighborhood offers a range of shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes, and all of Rome’s historic museums, theatres, monuments, and galleries are just a short bus ride away, making it easy to experience all that the city has to offer.

This program at the American University of Rome is designed to provide students with a personalized and integrated living and learning experience in Rome. Students may participate for one semester or for a full academic year, enrolling in between 12 and 18 credits per semester. All courses are taken alongside international students from more than 40 countries worldwide. View the courses available each term on AUR’s course catalog.

All students are required to enroll in an on-site course. On-site courses hold classes at locations of cultural or historical significance around Rome daily or frequently throughout the semester. These courses will have an "on-site" note in the course description, and a schedule of on-site visits and entrance fees or additional costs are outlined in course syllabi provided on the first day of class.

While not recommended, students studying at AUR are permitted to take one online or blended course. The rest of the coursework should be taken in the traditional on-campus format.
Credit Transfer
The credit hours awarded at AUR are equivalent to U.S. credits (e.g. three credits at AUR are equivalent to three HPU credits). Likewise, AUR uses the American grading system.

For High Point University to recognize the credits you complete abroad, you must earn at least a grade equivalent to a C in the U.S. HPU will not accept credit for courses with grades of C– or below. Grades for all courses earned abroad are recorded on the international transcript. Credits are received by HPU as transfer credits, which means the credit is received but the grade is not. Your HPU grade point average will not be impacted positively or negatively by your study abroad courses.
