On August 3, 2023, Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani (ret.), a member of the HPU Law extended faculty, received the 2023 American Bar Association International Human Rights Award. This annual award recognizes exceptional achievements by individuals or organizations that champion and defend human rights outside the United States. Chief Justice Jillani received the award due to his leadership, dedication, courage, and perseverance in advancing human rights as the Chief Justice of Pakistan, where he penned some of the nation’s most critical opinions on religious liberty, human rights, and the rule of law.
Chief Justice Jillani was recognized at the ABA Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. HPU Founding Dean and Professor of Law Mark Martin attended the ceremony to honor and celebrate the many accomplishments of his colleague and friend.
