Last week, the North Carolina Technology Association selected North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby as its Public Leader of the Year. This award is given annually to a public figure “whose achievements and influence have shaped the tech sector in North Carolina.”

The Chief Justice’s award, as well as the recognition of Anthony Whitmore as Public Sector Chief Information Officer of the Year, highlight the Judicial Branch’s implementation of the eCourts system, which is now in effect in all 100 counties in the state.

Access to eCourts provides North Carolina residents with the ability to find records, file documents, and make payments digitally, reducing administrative burden on courts and individuals. Successfully converting all 100 counties was a multi-year, multi-person effort, guided by Chief Justice Newby’s leadership.

Former Chief Justice and Founding Dean Mark Martin commented,

“All of us at High Point Law sincerely congratulate the Chief Justice for this award and applaud his efforts to bring the eCourts project to completion. All North Carolinians benefit from this system, perhaps none more than the future lawyers and jurists enrolled at the Kahn School of Law.”
