Natt Gantt, Professor of Law and Director of Professional Formation at HPU Law, has been appointed co-editor of the Journal of Christian Legal Thought, a publication dedicated to exploring the relationship between the Christian faith, the law, and the legal profession.  The journal seeks to inspire lawyers, law students, and legal scholars to engage biblical truth as they practice, study, and shape law and legal institutions. The journal connects theory and practice by offering both robust academic and theological reflection on timely legal issues as well practical insights for those engaged in daily legal work. In his role as co-editor, Gantt will work with two other co-editors in soliciting, selecting, and editing articles for the journal.

Gantt brings more than two decades of experience in legal education, with a career focused on legal ethics, academic support, professional identity formation, and legal education reform. Through his teaching, presentations, and scholarship, he has become a nationally recognized voice on law student and lawyer well-being and on the role of legal education in fostering integrity as both a personal and professional value. Gantt’s academic professional background reflects his interdisciplinary approach to law and professional formation. He earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, his Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and his Bachelor of Arts in psychology and political science from Duke University.

His appointment as co-editor of the Journal of Christian Legal Thought builds upon his longstanding commitment to thoughtful engagement among faith, law, ethics, and professional formation. It also reflects the broader mission of High Point University School of Law to prepare future lawyers not only for the practice of law, but for lives of purpose, integrity, and service.

“The Journal of Christian Legal Thought is an essential bridge between the academy and the profession in examining what Christian thought and biblical teaching have to say about the law, legal education, and the legal profession,” Gantt said. “I am honored to serve in this role and advance this important conversation in today’s cultural context.”

Former Chief Justice and Founding Dean Mark Martin observed:

“All of us at HPU Law are proud of Professor Gantt’s appointment as co-editor of the Journal of Christian Legal Thought and his continued work on professional identity formation at the national level. Engaging future lawyers in meaningful discussions about values is central to who we are at HPU Law.”
