Admission Policy
Admission to the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University is competitive and selective. We seek applicants who demonstrate strong academic potential, integrity, resilience, and a commitment to serving their communities with civility and grace. In keeping with the mission of High Point Law, our admissions process is designed to identify future lawyer-leaders who will thrive in our rigorous J.D. program, contribute to our vibrant learning community, and enrich the legal profession.
Factors Considered
In evaluating each applicant, the Admissions Committee considers, but is not limited to, the following interrelated factors:
- Academic Record and Preparation
- Evidence of academic achievement and a demonstrated ability to succeed in a demanding law curriculum.
- Standardized Test Scores
- LSAT or GRE are considered in context.
- Personal Statement(s)
- Insight into the applicant’s motivation, character, and readiness for legal study.
- Letters of Recommendation
- Assessments of intellectual ability, work ethic, and professional promise.
- Resume and Professional Experiences
- Accomplishments, leadership roles, community service, and other experiences that reflect maturity and a commitment to service.
- Commitment to the Legal Profession
- Interest in upholding the highest ethical standards and contributing meaningfully to the practice of law.
- Personal Qualities
- Integrity, accountability, adaptability, growth mindset, resilience, empathy, and sound judgment.
- Contribution to the Law School Community
- Likelihood of enhancing the intellectual and breadth of cultural perspective of our student body.
- Overcoming Adversity
- Ability to persevere and thrive despite obstacles or challenges.
- Background and Experience
- Consideration of socioeconomic and geographic background, first-generation status, and unique life experiences that provide valuable perspectives.
Holistic Review Process
All applications undergo a careful and thorough holistic review. No single factor—such as an LSAT score or grade-point average—determines the outcome. Instead, each applicant’s file is individually assessed using both quantifiable metrics and qualitative factors to gain a comprehensive understanding of their strengths, potential, and fit with our program.
Degree Requirement
In accordance with ABA Standard 502(b), all matriculating students must hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, unless otherwise permitted by ABA standards.
Character and Fitness
Applicants must demonstrate the character and fitness required for admission to the bar and the practice of law. All applicants must fully and truthfully disclose any past conduct that may bear on their honesty, integrity, or trustworthiness. Failure to disclose relevant information may result in revocation of an offer of admission or dismissal.
