Roles Mathematics Graduates Can Pursue

A Mathematics degree can also prepare students for roles such as actuary, statistician, data analyst, operations research analyst, cryptographer, systems analyst, economist and meteorologist, and for analyst work at agencies such as the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Mathematics Student Organizations

Mathematics students can take part in organizations recognized in the university’s Student Government Association club directory, including the Computer Science Society, the Society of Physics Students, the Robotics Club and Alpha Lambda Delta, the first-year honor society.

These groups connect mathematics majors with students in physics, computing and engineering, the fields mathematics most often pairs with.

Research and Honors

Mathematics majors can graduate with departmental honors by completing the senior research sequence MTH 4910 and MTH 4920 and holding a major GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Students present their work at High-PURCS, HPU’s annual undergraduate research and creative works symposium, where more than 410 undergraduates delivered 260 presentations in April 2026.
