Upperclassman Parents: August 2015

Dear Parents,

Summer 2015 may be winding down, but HPU students have been incredibly productive and active in pursuing their dreams and bettering themselves for the future.  Meanwhile, we have been busy on campus preparing for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Forty-one new faculty members will be joining our family in a few weeks.  These faculty, who are well-qualified and eager to begin the fall semester, represent most all academic disciplines.

This summer, hundreds of High Point University students have completed challenging, exciting, and rewarding internships all over the world, applying classroom learning to real-world situations. For example,

• Zac Gaetano, from Maryland, takes the controls at Comcast Sports Network.
• Ashley Angle, from Pennsylvania, practices Hotel Management at Hershey Entertainment and Resorts.
• Zach Pallis and Chris Kiley, from New Jersey & Massachusetts, intern with entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis.
Olivia Bruner, from Kentucky, will pursue her Master of Design at the University of Cincinnati.

In our May term, almost 150 HPU students traveled to 17 countries through 11 diverse and interactive programs on 6 continents.  New destinations in 2015 included India, Morocco, Portugal and Germany.  We are now promoting 15 programs for 2016.  New destinations in 2016 will include Costa Rica, Scotland and Australia.

Nearly 50 students worked with 25 faculty members on campus this summer in a variety of undergraduate research projects.  Not only did students and faculty conduct research in the traditional sciences, but in areas such as English, Computer Science, Modern Foreign Language, Psychology, and Theatre as well.

We are excited about the coming academic year and look forward to having all of our students back on campus.  We are thankful for your support and partnership.
