Students Serve Locally and Globally

Dear HPU Parents,

Knowledge gained in the classroom at High Point University is complemented with meaningful experiences that take place beyond the classroom walls and enrich the souls of our students. Our campus provides daily experiences for students travelling their lifelong journey of education. The values of civility and serving others surround your student at HPU.

Students contribute measurable service to their local and global communities. Many gave out candy to trick-or-treaters from Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont, while The Student Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) hosted a Halloween Dance for individuals with disabilities from the High Point community.

Other students traveled abroad during their fall breaks. In Guatemala, students worked with low-income families to build dozens of stoves that will lessen smoke and increase ventilation in their houses. And in Costa Rica, members of HPU’s Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity helped build a community center, teach children English and assist with a feeding program. And on Veterans Day, hundreds of students volunteered to honor our nation’s heroes.

I continue to be amazed with the thoughtful acts of generosity our students display. How they live, how they know that anything is possible. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, these stories remind us all of the values that we cherish. I am grateful.

Sincerely,

Gail Tuttle
