A Message from Dr. Daniel Erb, HPU’s Senior vice President of Academic Affairs

Dear Parents,

The Fall 2020 semester is officially underway after HPU’s Health & Safety Task Force worked tirelessly to prepare campus and welcome your student home.

We have heard from so many parents that their students are happy to be back at HPU. At the same time, we know you miss them and occasionally worry. You are their parent. How could you not?

That’s why I want to remind you of the list of safety measures below. This, of course, is just a glimpse of what the Task Force has been doing. As the chair of HPU’s Health & Safety Task Force, I can promise you that no list could possibly capture every extensive measure we’ve taken, and it certainly can’t capture our passion and commitment to supporting students.

I’ve spent many years as a health care provider and a health professions  educator, and I want you to know we take seriously the information that continues to develop regarding COVID-19 and the recommendation of other leading health care providers. We also remain adaptable and will continue to evaluate, enhance or alter any protocols as the semester continues.

From all of us at HPU, we are so glad to have your students back on campus.

  • Within 24 hours before arriving to campus, students were required to complete this self-health assessment before move-in for their safety, as well as the safety of the entire campus community.
  • As we navigate the global pandemic, HPU’s Clean Team continues their increased disinfecting routine in common areas across campus each day. For students wondering about best personal practices for cleaning individual living spaces, we’re providing this helpful residence hall cleaning video.
  • HPU’s libraries are an essential resource for students and faculty. When students return to campus, they’ll quickly note safety upgrades and new procedures taking place in libraries like Smith Library. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at these measures, including the quarantine process for books and more.
  • How will campus dining look this fall? Here’s an overview of important updates to HPU Dining as the university’s Health and Safety Task Force continues to implement new measures across campus in response to the national pandemic.
  • Here’s a message from HPU’s Student Health Services powered by Novant Health where you can get an overview of updates to services available to HPU students and important reminders about monitoring and mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
  • When students return to campus in August, they will receive a complementary HPU face mask! HPU mom and nurse Cindy Tumilty highlights how to properly wear an HPU face mask.
  • Here’s a look at the new protocols that have been put in place by the Health and Safety Task Force as preparations continue across campus for the return of all students, faculty and staff.
  • Here’s a look at HPU’s Clean Team, who frequently disinfect all high-traffic touch points across all campus buildings throughout the day in accordance with the CDC guidelines.

Remember to also utilize the HPU Health Hub Dashboard, where information is kept up-to-date and resources are provided with special information for parents.

We are excited about the coming academic year and we are so glad to have students back on campus. We are thankful for your support and partnership.
