HPU Students Shadow Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall During Externship
Four HPU Sport Management students spent the day shadowing Cynt Marshall, Dallas Mavericks CEO and HPU’s Sports Executive in Residence, as part of an externship. The students gained hands-on experience and learned what it takes to prepare the Mavericks for their home season opener against the Washington Wizards at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Landrie Grace Lands at Orlando Magic
Landrie Grace, Sport Management minor and member of the Class of 2019, joined the Orlando Magic as a sales representative in Orlando, Florida. Her primary responsibility is to sell Orlando Magic tickets and group packages to local businesses, individuals, groups, organizations and companies.

HPU Names Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall as Sports Executive in Residence
High Point University has named Dallas Mavericks Chief Executive Officer Cynt Marshall as Sports Executive in Residence. Marshall has been CEO of the Dallas Mavericks since May 2018. Marshall’s son is a graduate of HPU. She will be returning to HPU each year to mentor students in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.

Presley Brown Joins Team Connection
Presley Brown, Sport Management major and member of the Class of 2018, joined Team Connection as the volleyball sales representative in High Point, North Carolina. Brown provides customer service to youth club volleyball teams across the country by assisting them through the process of outfitting their team with uniforms and apparel. Brown also connects with coaches to understand their needs and supports the Team Connection branding statement that “sport fuels life.”

Mikaela Campbell Joins NBA Headquarters
Mikaela Campbell, Sport Management major and member of the Class of 2018, joined the National Basketball Association in NYC as part of the NBA Associate Program. This two-year program for recent college graduates will allow Campbell to experience different sectors of NBA headquarters. Associates rotate through four areas of the business for six months at a time and are placed in a full-time role with one department at the completion of the program.

Careers in sport management are changing every day thanks to the influence of technology and globalization — and Dr. Jennifer Lukow takes that challenge as motivation to arm students with the tools necessary to load their bases, so to speak — allowing them to hit a home run when they enter the real world.

HPU Students Gain Marketing Experience at Madison Square Garden
The Radio City Rockettes, the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and the New York Liberty. These are just a few of the major brands three High Point University students worked with through their internships with The Madison Square Garden Company in New York.Graduates of the Classes of 2018 and 2019, Cassandra Diaz, Mitch Rissmiller, and Sarah Obletz, spent the summer in New York as student associates in various marketing roles for the company.

Jenna Irvin becomes Pure Barre Franchise Owner
Jenna Irvin, Sport Management major and member of the Class of 2017, put her business model to work as a Pure Barre franchise owner in the State College, Pennsylvania market. As a studio owner, she will oversee all the studio finances, operations marketing, scheduling, advertising, hiring, ordering retail inventory, managing her team, teaching barre classes, planning local co-market events, etc. Her daily duties will vary greatly, but will be rooted in making strong community connections and wearing many different hats.

Student Interns at Top Athletic Footwear Company
Graham Billings explored the world of sports communication through his summer internship at Reebok International Ltd. in Canton, Massachusetts. Billings worked as the global social media intern for Reebok, where he distributed content and promoted the Reebok brand through a variety of social media platforms.

Casey Schoenholtz Starts Sports Marketing Career
Casey Schoenholtz, Sport Management minor and member of Class of 2015, accepted a position as an Account Trainee for Events at Genesco Sports Enterprises in Rye, New York. In her position, Schoenholtz will support corporate clients through the implementation and execution of 100+ events that will help enhance Genesco’s engagement activation program.

Sport Management Students Attend NFL Combine Career Conference
Four High Point University seniors recently gained invaluable insight into the sport management industry while attending the NFL Combine Football Career Conference in Indianapolis. During the conference, the students attended panel discussions about careers in sports and a networking event where they met professionals currently working at the highest levels of the business.
