On Thursday September 17, 2020, the Education Fellows had the incredible opportunity of meeting with (virtually) and learning from Ms. Kyle Schwartz, author of I Wish My Teacher Knew. Mrs. Schwartz provided great insight on the benefits of a holistic education and forming connections with students. According to Schwartz, it is critical to “build relationships, create bonds, and respond to student’s needs.” In addition, the realization of the complexity of children’s lives can lead to empathetic understanding. Ms. Schwartz, thank you for your wonderful presentation; you left our cohort inspired and pondering how we, as future teachers, can make our schools “a safe place to land.”
