Graduates design and build hardware and software systems across networking, design automation, robotics and system integration.

Where Electrical Engineering Graduates Work

Electrical Engineering graduates design and build hardware and software systems, working across networking, design automation, robotics and system integration. Electrical engineers work in almost every industry, including power, electronics, medicine, music and entertainment, and design the components behind communications systems and devices such as laptops and smartphones.

Students take internships before they graduate, including roles as a Project Leader Intern at ASSA ABLOY and a Controls Engineering Intern at Burns & McDonnell.

Career prospects for HPU Computer and Electrical Engineering graduates include companies such as Amazon, Apple, AT&T, Boeing, Google, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, Oracle and Tesla.

U.S. News & World Report ranks High Point University #1 among Regional Universities in the South for Earnings by Major in Best Colleges 2027, a factor that measures what graduates earn four years after leaving campus.

Across all majors, 99% of High Point University’s Class of 2025 was employed or continuing their education within 180 days of graduation, 13 points above the national average, measured by National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) standards. The Princeton Review ranks HPU #14 for Best Career Services in its 2027 guide.

Professional Engineer Licensure

An ABET-accredited degree is the standard route to the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and, in time, professional engineer licensure. Webb School of Engineering computer and electrical engineering graduates have a 100% pass rate on the FE exam. See the FE exam results.

Electrical Engineering Salary and Job Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a $125,040 median annual wage for electrical and electronics engineers in May 2025 and projects employment to grow 8% from 2025 to 2035, with about 16,300 openings a year.

Electrical Engineering Student Organizations

Engineering students run their own organizations, recognized in the university’s Student Government Association club directory.

  • Robotics Club
  • Society of Physics Students, the campus chapter of the American Institute of Physics organization
  • Computer Science Society

Competition Record

At IEEE SoutheastCon 2024, the HPU Robotics Club placed second in the hardware competition.

Electrical Engineering Graduate Outcomes

Jenny Aguirre, an electrical engineering graduate with minors in civic responsibility and social innovation, joined Volvo Trucks’ Operations Graduate Program in Greensboro as a diagnostic engineer and test developer. Aguirre’s first Volvo internship came through a manager met at an HPU career fair.

“My professors and the CPD office provided the guidance, tools, and confidence I needed to pursue a career at Volvo and continue working toward my professional goals,” Aguirre said.

Electrical Engineering Students in Research and Leadership

Paul Cusumano, a senior electrical engineering major and Honors Scholar, spent summer 2026 researching next-generation particle detectors with Dr. Adam Anthony, assistant professor of physics. After graduating, Cusumano will report to Officer Candidate School to earn a commission as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer.

Emma Higgins, an electrical engineering major with a minor in mathematics, was named one of HPU’s 2025 Extraordinary Leaders. Higgins served as Class of 2025 president, researched triboelectric nanogenerators, was a Fulbright semifinalist and was a runner-up for the Gaddis Leadership Award.

Matt Costantino, an electrical engineering major, led the HPU Robotics Team as president and presented its lunar rover designs to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

“The rigorous problem-solving skills, technical discipline and data analysis methods I am developing through this research with Dr. Anthony will be directly applicable to managing the complex, high-stakes nuclear engineering systems I will oversee as a nuclear-trained officer.”

Cusumano, electrical engineering major

“He reinforced the idea that if you have certain specific things you want to know, you shouldn’t wait around to be taught.”
