The Chamber Singers from High Point University, located in High Point, NC, is the premier vocal ensemble of the university. This select ensemble of 40 singers is made of students from many academic disciplines across campus and who hail from all over the country. Each person was chosen through a competitive audition and receives of scholarship for his or her participation. The choir rehearses five days per week and performs over 40 concerts annually.
The choir has been honored to perform a solo concert to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2011; was the featured collegiate choir performing at the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA) Conference in 2013; The regional convention of the College Music Society (CMS) in March, 2015; performed at the North Carolina American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Conference in September, 2015; the Southern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in Chattanooga, TN in March, 2016; and was excited to be one of the featured collegiate choirs, selected from over 700 world-wide, at the Quadrennial General Conference of the United Methodist Church in Portland, Oregon in May, 2016. Chamber Singers have also been featured on several compact disc recordings from Hinshaw Music Inc. as part of their promotion of new choral music and have been honored to premier choral works by Dan Forrest, Richard Waters, James Green, David Schwoebel, and many others.
Chamber Singers have toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad. International performances include St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Duomo in Florence, and St. Mark’s in Venice, Italy; concerts in Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; and Budapest, Hungary. In January of 2017 members of the choir will spend the spring semester touring Europe, while based out of Prague, Czech Republic and studying at Anglo-American University. Every spring break Chamber Singers tours nationally and has been honored to give performances in North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia; Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. In May 2016 Chamber Singers embarked on their first-ever west coast choir tour with concerts from Portland, Oregon to San Diego, California.
