Dear Parents,
Welcome to High Point University! It is my pleasure to introduce you to our Freshman Success Center.
The Freshman Success Center at High Point University is designed to ensure students complete a successful transition through the first year of college. A team of coaches and an associate dean for freshmen success, located in Smith Library, provide multiple support systems that enhance the learning experience and ease the transition to college by engaging students on campus from day one. As President Qubein remarked at the Opening Convocation: “At HPU we don’t weed students out of the system. We weave them into the family.”
Freshman success coaches meet one-on-one with first-year students to assess their needs and chart a course towards excellence. The coach and student build an individualized plan that encompasses every aspect of the student’s life – academic, personal, career and social. The center works with multiple stakeholders across campus, including professors, advisors, student organizations, student life, campus activities team and many others to ensure students engage with our network of resources. Coaches strategically align with specific academic majors and departments to create targeted plans for a student’s academic path.
While faculty and staff are here to help your student on their journey, this is a partnership. To succeed, they will need to work hard, prepare, study, give back and commit to a purposeful collaboration with our faculty mentors and fellow students. We appreciate you entrusting us with your student and take that responsibility seriously.
I would love to connect with you. Please contact me if you have any Freshman Success questions. We look forward to partnering with your student.
Sincerely,
Dr. Beth Holder,
Associate Dean for Freshman Success
