Dear Parents,
Summer 2016 may be winding down, but HPU students have been incredibly productive and active in pursuing their dreams and bettering themselves for the future. Meanwhile, we have been busy on campus preparing for the 2016-2017 academic year.
More than 40 new faculty members will be joining our family in a few weeks. These faculty, who are well-qualified and eager to begin the fall semester, represent most all academic disciplines.
This summer, hundreds of High Point University students have completed challenging, exciting and rewarding internships all over the world, applying classroom learning to real-world situations. For example,
- Court Rathbun, from Georgia, scored game-day production experience with WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.
- Emily Anderson, from New York, helped produce live episodes for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
- Holly Gambrell, from Maryland, helped create and edit Good Housekeeping magazine in New York City.
- Lexi Dixon and Connor Whicker, both from North Carolina, served as athletic training interns with the Carolina Panthers.
In our May term, almost 200 HPU students traveled to 14 countries through 12 diverse and interactive programs on four continents. New destinations in 2016 included Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Costa Rica, Scotland and Australia. We are now promoting 14 programs for 2017. A new destination in 2017 will include the Philippines, with a program studying the agriculture and public health of the Philippines.
Additionally, more than 60 students worked with 26 faculty members on campus this summer in a variety of undergraduate research and creative projects, which now span across three programs. Not only did students and faculty conduct research in the traditional sciences, but in areas such as English, math, game design, communication, psychology, education, political science and criminal justice as well.
We are excited about the coming academic year and look forward to having all of our students back on campus. We are thankful for your support and partnership.
