A Message from Doug Hall, Assistant Director of Career and Professional Development

Dear Parents,

We hope you are enjoying the summer and have been able to spend quality time with your HPU student. Parents are our partners and play a vital role in your student’s journey. You know their strengths and characteristics better than anyone. Encourage your student to take full advantage of the Office of Career and Professional Development to help convey their strengths to employers and graduate schools.

Gaining experience during the summer often leads to successful outcomes. Employers regard internship, volunteer, and service experience as relevant preparation for new hires.

Please read this post on 6 Tips to Maximize Your Student’s Internship Experience. The information is adapted from recent stories published online by Business Insider and Fortune magazine.

Also, our website is designed to inform and inspire students and parents. We invite you to take a look at highpoint.edu/careerinternships. We have added resources like InterviewStream to prepare students for an increasingly digital hiring process, and we recently introduced our new career services platform Purple Briefcase. Within this platform, students will be notified about Career & Professional Development events as well as have opportunities to apply for internships and full-time employment. Please encourage your student to sign up and create a profile at Purple Briefcase.

Thank you for your continued advocacy and support. We look forward to partnering with you and your student in the upcoming year. Please visit us in Cottrell Hall when you are on campus!
