Dear Parents,
Summer 2017 may be winding down, but HPU students have been incredibly productive and active in pursuing their dreams and bettering themselves for the future. Meanwhile, we have been busy on campus preparing for the 2017-2018 academic year.
More than 30 new faculty members will be joining our family in a few weeks. These faculty, who are well-qualified and eager to begin the fall semester, represent most all academic disciplines.
This summer, hundreds of High Point University students have completed challenging, exciting and rewarding internships all over the world, applying classroom learning to real-world situations. For example,
- Paul Green, from Colorado, scored graphic design experience with the MLB.
- Michaela O’connor, from Connecticut, joined the wedding planning team at Walt Disney World as one of two interns selected from hundreds of applicants.
- Cassandra Diaz, Mitch Rissmiller and Sarah Obletz worked with the Radio City Rockettes, New York Knicks and New York Rangers through internships with the Madison Square Garden Company.
In our May term, almost 125 HPU students traveled to 12 countries through 9 diverse and interactive programs on five continents. We are now promoting 20 programs for 2018, and new destinations in 2018 will include Israel and Norway.
Additionally, more than 56 students worked with 27 faculty members on campus this summer in a variety of undergraduate research and creative projects, which now span across three programs. Not only did students and faculty conduct research in the traditional sciences, but in areas such as English, math, game design, communication, psychology, education, political science and criminal justice as well.
We also welcomed the first class of physical therapy doctoral students to campus this summer, making PT the university’s third doctoral program. And, we invested $1.5 million in new technology in our Nido R. Qubein School of Communication.
We are excited about the coming academic year and look forward to having all of our students back on campus. We are thankful for your support and partnership.
