Devotional
A pastor at my home church once mentioned a sort of prayer outline people could follow. So I made my own. It consisted of: greeting God, telling Him what I was thankful for then inserting my prayer request.
However, this felt impersonal and one-sided. Out of my frustration, I started taking walks alone. I didn’t listen to music. I listened to what was around me. I spent time in nature with the speckled sun light on the path in front of me and the blue sky above, I started having conversations with God. I would pause in between thoughts and listen to what He said. This is when I felt the closest to God.
These excursions alone have become my new way of praying. I realize a “good prayer” happens when my intentions are set before I start speaking. I take a moment to settle my mind and find God. Then, I begin. God is not up in the sky judging our prayers like an AP English teacher, God is right beside us walking along the same path. He is not scared to go into the trenches of life with us because he knows there is a light at the end.
