Day 25 | Lenten Message

Day 11 Matthew 1128

Devotional

“Run To the Father” by Cody Carnes is one of my very favorite worship songs. It allows me to be fully reminded of the promises that Christ holds and the power that He has over my life. In the times of struggle and unrest, I can find peace in these lyrics:

My heart needs a surgeon,

My soul needs a friend

So I run to the Father

Again and again

And again and again.

Our hearts may break for the world, for ourselves, and for the ones that we love. We alone do not have the power to piece it back together to its full potential. When we rely on ourselves to be the surgeon of our hearts, we find glue that’s found in the world, a temporary substance that holds us together for the time being but will burst at any moment. We must look to the Creator above us to permanently piece it back together with His healing hands and His holy glue that is everlasting.

Our hearts are powerful things: They can love; they can break; and they can hurt. Whatever the state of your heart may be, we have a mighty surgeon who can piece it back together in a way that glorifies Him and renews us to our full potential.

In our loneliest moments, when we feel that there is not a person to give us comfort, we must run to Jesus and know that He is our friend and so much more. He is our father, our creator, the one who knows our every thought and feeling, and most importantly the one who never leaves our side.

Jesus of all people knows what it feels like to be betrayed, alone, and unwanted, but He runs towards us with open arms knowing our every imperfection and says in Matthew 11:28, “come to me.”

The comfort that I hold in knowing we have a friend and a surgeon for our life is incomparable. It can be found nowhere else in the capacity that our father offers. Rest in that. Rest in knowing you can run back to the father countless number of times, and He will never turn back on you.

Prayer

Lord, in this broken life I live let me see you. Let me see you in the blue skies and the rainy ones, in the heart-break and the full heart. Father, thank you. Thank you for your never ending comfort and companionship. Lord, I know I am broken and imperfect, but I also know that you’re perfect and holy. Allow me to be more like you. Allow me to strive to live a life full of sacrificial love as you did on the cross for us. Allow you to shine through me in the darkness and in the light so that more people may see you. It’s in your precious name I pray, Amen.
