Multi-faith Prayer & Meditation Space

High Point University, rooted in it’s United Methodist Christian tradition, seeks to be a place of radical hospitality to people of all traditions.IMG 4281

Purpose: The multi-faith prayer and meditation room is a vital resource on campus affirming the presence and dignity of students from many different spiritual backgrounds. It has features such as prayer clothes, religious elements from various traditions (such as: Qurans, prayer beads, meditation cushions, weighted blankets, chairs) and hand and foot washing stations.

Practice: The space is intentionally created to be flexible and welcoming for a wide range of practices. For example:

  • Muslim students can use it for daily prayers.
  • Hindu and Buddhist students can engage in meditation, chanting, or mindfulness
  • Students from Indigenous or other spiritual traditions can use the space for grounding and personal rituals.
  • The room becomes a shared safe environment where diverse expressions of spirituality are equally respected.

At the same time, the space extends beyond religion alone. It offers a quiet refuge for any student seeking rest, stillness, orIMG 4283 mindfulness in the midst of a demanding academic schedule.

Research shows that such spaces support mental health by reducing stress and promoting self-regulation, which benefits the entire student body. By creating a safe place for prayer, meditation, and reflection, it allows students an environment where they are encouraged to bring their full selves, which includes bringing their identities, traditions, and inner practices into their daily lives at the HPU.

Location: The Multi-faith Prayer and Meditation Space is located adjacent to the Fellowship Hall on the first floor of David Hayworth Hall.
