The Parent Perspective – Upperclassman Parents August 11

Dear HPU Parent,

We have had an incredibly busy summer at HPU!

We have hired over thirty new faculty members joining our family in a few weeks.  These faculty, who are well-qualified and eager to begin the fall semester, represent most all academic disciplines.
This summer, hundreds of High Point University students are completing challenging, exciting, and rewarding internships all over the world, applying classroom learning to real-world situations. For example,

  • Nick Stigler, an athletic training major, is working with the New Orleans Saints at their training facility.
  • Haley Cotnoir, a business administration major, assists in the campaign marketing office of U.S. Rep Joseph Courtney’s re-election campaign in Connecticut.
  • Jasmine Williams, a journalism major, is getting a first-hand look at how a major media company works as an intern for Gannett Co. Inc.at the corporate headquarters in McLean, Va.
  • Kelly Schwab, a strategic communication major, is working as a digital media intern for Animal Planet in Silver Spring, Md.

In our May term, almost 200 HPU students traveled to 16 countries through 13 diverse and interactive programs on 6 continents.  New destinations in 2014 included Japan, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Chile, and Argentina.  We are now promoting 18 programs for 2015.  New destinations in 2015 will include India, Morocco, Portugal, Romania, Denmark, and Sweden.

A new initiative on campus is the Summer Research Institute. We have had 14 students working this summer with 12 faculty across 9 disciplines to engage in impactful experiential learning along side faculty mentors.

We look forward to fall semester.  Thank you for being our partners.
