Sport marketing, law, finance and facility management from the first semester, plus a global study course and a required internship.

The B.A. in Sport Management

The sport management major applies business concepts to sport organizations, with a blend of management, leadership, professional development and sport sociology. Students start in their very first semester and build toward strategic management of sport organizations.

The degree totals 128 credits, with 52 in the major. Many students add a minor in business, event management, sales or social media marketing.

Communication Foundation

How Sport Management Courses Prepared Graduates

The B.A. in Sport Management requires 52 credits in the major, and the full course list is in the undergraduate bulletin. Coursework runs through the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, and the program’s careers page shows where graduates work. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 6% growth from 2025 to 2035 for advertising, promotions and marketing managers. Graduates name the courses behind their sports business careers.

SMG Global Experience

Sport management students can study international sport business firsthand through the SMG Global Experience, including Maymester sections of Sport in Society taught abroad.

Projects With Local Clients

Class projects pair students with local sport organizations, so students solve real problems and build a portfolio before graduation.

The Sport Management Association

The student-run Sport Management Association hosts networking events, behind-the-scenes facility tours, guest speakers, sport events and volunteer opportunities. Students also run the SMG social media team.

Case Study Competitions

The case study team builds critical thinking and teamwork under pressure, presenting at national conferences.
