Instrumentation
The Department of Chemistry engages students in the authentic practice of science through hands-on access to advanced, research-grade instrumentation typically reserved for graduate study. From tools such as a nuclear magnetic resonance instrument and scanning electron microscope to specialized chemistry equipment, students gain direct experience using the technologies that drive modern discovery. Training emphasizes safety, responsible use and technical proficiency, allowing students to develop independence and confidence as they progress. By integrating instrumentation into coursework and research, students gain essential skills for success in graduate school, professional programs, and scientific careers.
The Department of Chemistry at High Point University is excited to partner with Shimadzu Scientific Instruments through the Shimadzu Partnership for Academics, Research and Quality of Life (SPARQ) program, providing state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation for HPU students and researchers. Shimadzu instruments are featured in our analytical laboratory on the 4th floor of the Wanek School of Natural Sciences, in our teaching laboratories and on the HPU Mobile Community Laboratory.
