Who are we?
Panther Recovery is High Point University’s Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) recognized by the Association of Recovery in Higher Education (AHRE). We are based out of the Office of Counseling Services and are dedicated to providing support for students who are seeking recovery or sobriety from alcohol or other substances. Panther Recovery is designed to assist in each individual’s unique journey by encouraging autonomy, facilitating empowerment, providing support, and advocating for our students. We also strive to provide resources for health & wellness, academic success, and social connection. It’s our hope that through these efforts, we will be able to create an inclusive community on campus to help students develop their premiere life skills.
According to the ARHE, a CRP is “a college or university-provided program that includes a supportive environment within the campus culture. CRPs reinforce the decision to engage in a lifestyle of recovery from addiction/substance use disorder. It is designed to provide an educational opportunity alongside recovery supports to ensure that students do not have to sacrifice one for the other.” CRPs are not just for students who currently identify as “in recovery.” It is also for students who want to be in recovery or those who wish to support others seeking recovery.
Recovery is defined as returning to a normal state of health, mind, or strength. It is also defined as finding or regaining possession of something. It is a journey, one that we hope to go on with you.
Approximately 960 students at High Point University identify as being in recovery and striving to improve their wellbeing.
