University of Winchester
Winchester, England
The University of Winchester has been noted by the Times Higher Education for “Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development” and “Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.” Each term the University of Winchester welcomes 5,800+ full and part-time students with 350+ international students from 30 countries. The University has been subject to regular quality audits from the Quality Assurance Agency which has again affirmed its confidence in their standards and the quality of their academic provision. The auditors praised the quality of the international student experience at Winchester. In 2011 Winchester achieved a five-star rating for “Excellence” from the British Quality Foundation. Five stars is the highest level of achievement and the University of Winchester was the first university in the UK to win this rating. The city of Winchester is one of the most beautiful cathedral cities in the UK. It is located at the center of southern England and is just one hour away from London by train. Winchester was the ancient capital chosen by King Alfred the Great as the seat of power for his Kingdom of Wessex. William the Conqueror later commissioned the monks of Winchester to write his famous Domesday Book which was housed in the King’s castle. Now only the Great Hall remains of the Castle and in it is the Round Table of the mythical King Arthur. Winchester is also the resting place of novelist Jane Austen, who is buried in the Cathedral. The Cathedral makes an impressive venue for University graduation ceremonies. Today, Winchester is a small and bustling city, with a population of around 45,000. It is a safe environment and an ideal place to study. All local amenities are easily accessible on foot from University. Winchester has a number of theatres, including the beautifully refurbished Theatre Royal. The Guildhall is a venue for frequent concerts, recitals, and shows. A full calendar of social events includes the famous Hat Fair and Folk Festival. Winchester boasts a wide selection of pubs and restaurants, with something to suit all tastes and budgets. The River Park Leisure Centre, which includes a swimming pool and health suite, is close at hand and offers student discounts.

Academic Information
The University of Winchester’s academic departments, centers, and institutes offer a range of study options within the arts and humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, computing, and entrepreneurial business and management.

Students can choose across disciplines for their module selection but should enroll in a total of 60 CATS. Modules in the United Kingdom are valued using the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS), where 10 CATS are equivalent to 3 HPU credits, 15: 4, and 20:5, etc. Students enroll in a semester load of 50-60 CATS, which is equivalent to a semester's course load at HPU. In planning, look for at least twice as many available modules as you may intend to take, giving you options and alternate courses for enrollment. Therefore, students interested in applying to the University of Winchester should obtain equivalency approvals for a minimum of 120 CATS. To view the module selection, visit the University of Winchester Incoming Exchange Student page and review the Academic Information and Module Information sections (found under Other Information for Incoming Students heading). More information about module selection can be found in the Winchester Guide to Module Selections.
Credits Information
For High Point University to recognize the credits you complete abroad, you must earn at least a grade equivalent to a C in the U.S. HPU will not accept credit for courses with grades of C– or below. Grades for all courses earned abroad are recorded on the international transcript. Credits are received by HPU as transfer credits, which means the credit is received but the grade is not. Your HPU grade point average will not be impacted positively or negatively by your study abroad courses.
