About Our Doctor of Pharmacy Program

High Point University’s Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy works to make a positive impact on the well-being of the individual and quality care for our community. Our PharmD program combines classroom learning and rich, practical patient-centered experience with your success as our top priority. Choose to earn your Doctor of Pharmacy degree at HPU because we offer:

  • Specialty certificate training: HPU PharmD degree students have the option to pursue specialty certificate training in selected disease states such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease.
  • Practice-ready experiential learning: Put your skills to practice in our Standardized Client Program, where you’ll work with community actors standing in as patients, physicians, nurses, caregivers and more.
  • Patient care experience plus community support: HPU PharmD students provide over 2,000 hours of community service each year. This includes the opportunity to be paired with a member of a local continuing care retirement community to form a relationship and make a lasting impact.

Cutting-edge facilities and training: High Point University’s School of Pharmacy includes state-of-the-art laboratories and analytical instruments. Your hands-on patient interactions take place in realistic simulated healthcare environments and are recorded for immediate feedback.

Our Integrated Doctor of Pharmacy Curriculum

You’ll experience a holistic, interdisciplinary education alongside our physician assistant, physical therapy and athletic training programs. High Point University’s Doctor of Pharmacy degree program weaves foundational science courses with integrated application-based clinical experiences for a deep, professional expertise that can be applied throughout your career.

Learn the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, human physiology, microbiology and more in the two-year pre-pharmacy program. Then sharpen your observation, communication and analytical skills in the four-year professional curriculum, which includes courses such as:

  • Ambulatory Care Skills

You’ll prepare to join collaborative healthcare teams and excel as a pharmacy doctor with a one-month licensing board preparatory course before graduation. Nearly 90% of HPU PharmD degree students pass the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam (NAPLEX) their first time.
